Molten Salt Solutions
Location: Santa Fe, New Mexico
Capabilities: Blankets, Magnetized, Stellarator, Tokamak, Tritium
Molten Salt Solutions is an advanced nuclear materials company solving one of fusion energy’s most critical supply chain challenges: the domestic production of enriched lithium isotopes. Based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and working with technology developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Molten Salt Solutions is scaling the first commercial production of enriched Li-6 and Li-7 – isotopes essential to tritium breeding and reactor coolant systems in the next generation of fusion and fission power plants.
The company’s proprietary lithium isotope enrichment technology combines high-speed counter-current chromatography – designed for continuous operation at industrial scale – and environmentally benign liquid-liquid extraction methods that deliver effective isotope separation without specialty chemicals. This offer significant cost, safety, and environmental advantages over conventional enrichment methods.
With funding from the NSF Seed Fund, Future Ventures and True Ventures, Molten Salt Solutions is positioned to provide the isotopically enriched materials that commercial fusion developers will require at scale – from tritium breeding blanket feedstocks to molten salt reactor coolants – from a secure domestic source.
